Mr. Leo Tanner entered peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, in the Chipola Health and Rehabilitation Center at the blessed age of 88.
Leo received the gift of life on August 19, 1932, in Cottondale, Florida to the late Lucious and Maggie Bell Sims Tanner. He attended the public schools of Jackson County for a short time, but the need to assist with caring for the family forced him to quit in Junior High and help with farming the land and tending the hogs.
He accepted Christ into his life at an early age and joined Mt. Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he actively served until his health failed.
Treasured memories will forever remain with four daughters, Diane Sylvester Owens of Marianna, Florida, Shirley Tanner Cunningham of Ocala, Florida, Alice T. Taylor and husband Rev. Henry of Campbellton, Florida and Virginia T. Wynn of Ocala, Florida; three sons, Wayne Tanner, Sr. and wife Sally of Ocala, Florida, Kelvin Horne of South Carolina and Arnick L. Tanner and wife Sharon of Ocala, Florida; one great aunt, Francis Wooten of Tampa, Florida; one sister-in-law, Ernestine Tanner of Michigan City, Indiana; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held graveside Saturday, January 23rd at 1:00p.m. at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church Cemetery with Reverend Jessica Muse, Rev. Claude Holden, Rev. Ron Johnson and Reverend Lynn McNealy officiating. Interment will follow with arrangements
