Mr. James A. Whitehead, age 87, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023. He was born on September 9, 1935 in Cottonwood, Alabama to Alter and Clara Whitehead. Jamie was the oldest son of Alter and Clara Whitehead. He not only retired from General Motors after 30 years but also retired from the Defuniak Springs Walmart after 20 years (aka – Mr. Jim in Sporting Goods… you didn’t have to see him to know he was there, you could hear his laughter aisles away!) During retirement, he enjoyed working the voting polls and performing in Grit and Grace. In his final years, he often sat on the front porch with his wife reflecting on God’s abundant blessings on their lives. Jim was a godly man raised in a Christian home and so looked forward to the annual Peacock Reunions catching up with all his loved ones, singing the old hymns (like his mama). His contagious smile, hearty laughter, humble demeanor, affirming hugs and words of love will forever be remembered by all who know and love him, especially by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mr. Whitehead was predeceased by his father and mother; and siblings, Gary and Willie.

Mr. Whitehead is survived by his bride of 60 years, Mary Edna Bailey Whitehead, children: Jeff, Jana, Jason, and Jennifer, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and siblings, Bud, Ronnie, and Denise.
