MMS softball wins nail-biter 8-7 over Riversprings

Marianna Middle School took on Riversprings in what is now known as their last game. Like so many other teams, their season ended abruptly and without warning. For the Lady Bullpups, it was a thrilling nail-biter with Marianna ending their season with an 8-7 victory.
Riversprings put one run on the board in the first inning with Marianna putting up a goose egg. Ella Rooks had a leadoff single but never crossed the plate.
Both teams put up zeroes in the second inning with Marianna passing up on an opportunity with a couple of early baserunners. Addison Giles led off with a single and moved to second on a single by Taviana Barnes but neither made their way across the plate.
It was a 10-run inning in the third with both teams posting five runs each. For Marianna, it was Allie Bruner with a leadoff single with Ella Rooks following with a single to put runners on the corners. Kennedy Temples reached on an error that loaded the bases for Amarii Spires three-RBI triple. Aubrie Hinson singled to score Spires before Taviana Barnes followed with a single. Avery Patterson-Rhodes followed with a walk to load the bases for Maycee Griffin to pick up an RBI on a sacrifice to second before the inning came to an end.
MMS added the decisive two runs in the fourth inning, giving them the 8-7 win. Ella Rooks drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a single by Kennedy Temples. With one out, Aubrie Hinson doubled home Temples with Addison Giles adding an RBI single for the winning run.
