Mary Elizabeth Clanton Perry of Chattahoochee, FL, passed away in the early morning hours of April 4, 2020. She was 77 years old. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mary was born September 21, 1942 to the late Grant Azlin B. Younglove and the late Juanita Eugenia Clanton in Miami, Fl. In December 1960, Mary met her husband, Claude Perry. After dating for a month, on January 7, 1961, they were married. Claude promised to take Mary all over the world and away they went, thanks to the US Coast Guard. They adopted 2 children in the Philippines, Claude II and Rianna.
After living in Rhode Island and Miami, FL for some time, Claude and Mary moved the family to Clifton, TN. Mary became an LPN in 1978, and her first nursing job was at Hardin County Nursing Home in Savannah, TN. From there, she went to work at Western Mental Health in Selmer, TN. In 1981, she went with her husband and children to Singapore for 3 1/2 years. Upon returning to the United States, Mary resumed her nursing career in Tennessee until 1986, when she and her husband moved their family to Chattahoochee, FL. Mary worked at Florida State Hospital from 1986 until her retirement in 2009.
Aside from her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Ann Clanton; her aunt, Joan Hawkins; and her youngest nephew, Edward Brooks Clanton. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Claude “Pete” Perry; her children, Claude Perry, II, of Winter Park, FL; Rianna Perry-Mullins and her husband, Tollie Mullins, of Pisgah Forest, NC; Sean Brooks Perry and his wife, Sarah Perry of Valdosta, GA; her grandson, Daniel Logan Quaide; her brother, Charles Clanton and his wife, Lynne Clanton; her oldest nephew, Steven Clanton; and her niece, Angel Clanton. She will be missed by her family and her many many friends.
