Mark Skinner | TIMES - Angie Ubias returns the ball for the Lady Bulldogs last week.

The Marianna volleyball team has reached new heights this year under the leadership of first-year head coach Bobby Hughes and assistants Sierra Hewett and Brandy Pittman. Hewett and Pittman bring court experience to the team with Hughes bringing leadership and the mentality to win. The combo has paid off with the Lady Bulldogs picking up their first 20-win season in recent memory.
Marianna won their last three games and won 13 of their last 14 games to finish the season 20-5. They are scheduled to take on the Godby Lady Cougars at 6 p.m. Thursday night in Sante Fe. The Lady Bulldogs welcome the challenge of facing a familiar foe for the third time this season. Marianna defeated them in three sets at the first meeting on the Lady Bulldog’s home court and again in three sets last Thursday on enemy territory.
They are entering district play as the number two seed in the district and earned a bye from competition on Tuesday. Hughes says, “This is huge for Marianna volleyball, having won only four games last year and to win 20 just one year later. These girls and the coaches have worked hard to get to this point and I couldn’t be prouder of them or for them.”
