The Malone Tigers showed no wear and tear from the trip to take on the Vernon YellowJackets last week as they held on to win 45-40.
The first quarter was a low-scoring affair, indicative of a rec ball game. Malone was edged by Vernon 6-5 with neither team jumping up and down over their performance. The Tigers cranked it up a few notches in the second quarter, putting up 16 points while their defense held Vernon to the same six points, giving Malone a 21-12 lead midway through the game. Malone was led by Spencer Floyd in the second quarter with five points, including a shot from three-point range.
The third quarter went Vernon’s way 16-11 despite four points a trio of downtown shots from Kaleb Wilson to lead the Tigers in the third. It was a 13-13 draw in the fourth quarter with Malone being led by Kaleb Wilson with five points with Jarrod Southwell going four-for-four from the line in the second half.
On the night, the Tigers were led by Kaleb Wilson with 17 points, followed by Ocasio Murff with eight and Jarrod Southwell with six.
