LT FHP (RET) R. E. “Buck” Phillips, 85 of Cottondale, Florida passed away, Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama following an extended illness.

Buck also known as “Buckshot” was born April 26, 1937, in Highnote, Alabama, moving to North Florida where he attended school in Holmes and Jackson counties. A U. S. Navy Veteran, he married the love of his life on September 16, 1961. Buck worked various jobs until he became a Florida State Trooper where he served between Gainesville to Miami from July 1, 1969, and retiring June 30, 1999. Since retiring Buck would just soon fish than eat, and yet those who knew him also knew he was one of the most amazing cooks around. He also loved to garden and enjoy his fresh grown vegetables. He was of the Christian faith.

Preceded in death by his parents Lee Phillips, Etta Stevenson Phillips Lee, one sister Mary Hurt.

He is survived by his beloved wife Mae Opal Phillips, Cottondale, two sisters-in-law Catherine Land (Gene), Reidsville, NC, Gayvon Carter, Cottondale, several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., (CST), Monday, February 27, 2023, at Marvin Chapel Cemetery in Graceville with Rev. Chester Padgett officiating, James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, 10 a.m., (CST), until the time of service.
