IMPORTANT INFORMATION
ABOUT OUR DRINKING WATER

September Monitoring Requirements Not Met For Town of Grand Ridge

Town of Grand Ridge Water System recently became aware that we failed to sample our wells and distribution system in September of this year.  Although this was not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we are doing to correct this situation.

We are required to monitor (or test) your drinking water for the presence of total coliform bacteria on a regular basis.  Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets health standards.  Each month, we normally collect one raw sample from each of our three wells and two samples from our water distribution system.  In September 2015, however, due to an oversight, we failed to take any of our required drinking water samples.  All samples required in October were taken and were absent for total coliforms.

What Should I Do?

There is nothing you need to do at this time:
You do not need to boil your water or take other precautionary actions.
You do not need to use an alternate
(e.g., bottled) water supply.

What Does This Mean?

This was not an emergency.  If it had been, we would have notified you immediately.  Coliforms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment, and are generally not harmful themselves.  They are used as an indicator that other, potentially harmful, bacteria may be present.  We did not perform the required September 2015 total coliform monitoring, and we cannot be sure of the quality of the drinking water we produced during that time.  However, no coliforms were found in any of our August or October test results.

What Has Been Done?

The Town of Grand Ridge has taken all October 2015 sampling as required by F.A.C. Rule 62-550.518(8) and is currently in compliance and meets all health standards.  We are amending our procedures to assure that the system will be properly and timely sampled each month from now on.

We are mailing a copy of this notice to all households and businesses that utilize the Town’s water system.  Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses).  You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.  A copy of this notice has been posted at the Grand Ridge Town Hall, located 2086 Porter Avenue, Grand Ridge, Florida.
