LaVelle S. Jones, 90, of Sneads, went to be with the Lord January 9, 2021. Lavelle was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County as well as a graduate of Sneads High School. She retired as an Administrative Assistant at Florida State Hospital after 30 years of dedicated service. LaVelle was a woman of great faith and a long-time member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Sneads. Her greatest joy was her family.
LaVelle was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles E. Jones; her parents, G.B. and Maggie Scott; four sisters and their husbands, Clarkie and Winston Ditty, Willie Mae and Willard Johnson, Frances and C.H. Parker, Vernon and Bud Hopkins and an infant brother Chester Scott.
LaVelle is survived by her daughter, Cindy Abel and her husband Paul of Sneads; her son, Bill Jones of Lynn Haven; three grandchildren, Will and Maggie Jones of Panama City and Chris Abel and his wife Pati of Sneads; two great grandchildren, Faith and Killion Abel of Sneads as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Flowers will be welcomed by the family; however, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the First Freewill Baptist Church of Sneads (general fund) 7970 Davis Street Sneads, FL 32460
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Thursday, January 14, 2021 in the First Freewill Baptist Church with Reverends Glynn Dunham and Tim Hamblin officiating and McAlpin Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow in the Circle Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at McAlpin Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM CST.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, face coverings should be worn by attendees while indoors and social distancing practiced as recommended by the CDC.
