Kathryn Mathis Mayo, 91, of Marianna, Florida died Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Jackson Hospital. 

Kathryn graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1947. She married James Mayo, the love of her life in 1949. Kathryn was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marianna since 1954.

She worked as lead telephone operator in Marianna for many years, later she worked at Paramore’s Pharmacy as a retail manager until she retired. 

Kathryn took much pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the visits and fellowship with her family. Kathryn was an avid gardener and spent many hours and days working in the yard. She seemed to know every flower and plant personally. She loved it and it showed. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ivey Mayo; parents, Benjamin Franklin and Ella Estelle Mathis; brothers, Ralph Mathis, of Cottonwood, Alabama and Dalton Mathis of Marianna, Florida; sisters, Nina Mathis Sasser, of Cottonwood, Alabama, Lila Ben Griffin, of Marianna, Florida, Murrelle Smith, of Abbeville, Alabama, Reba Martin, of Dothan, Alabama and Laurie Barton, of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Kathryn is survived by daughter, Kathy Baxley and husband, Tommy; son, Randy Mayo and wife, Nora, all of Marianna; five grandsons, Brian Baxley and wife, Doreen, of Panama City, Ben Baxley, of Atlanta, Georgia; Lucas Mayo, Trevor Mayo, Drew Mayo, all of Marianna, Florida; granddaughter, Erin French and husband, Jason, of Bethlehem, Florida; five great-grandsons, Nolan Baxley and Josh Baxley, both of Panama City, Camden Bruner,  Brooks Bruner and Will French, all of Bethlehem, Florida; sister, Joyce Sewell and husband, Joe, of Panama City, Florida; and brothers, Jamie Mathis and wife, Lee, of Dothan, Alabama, and Rosby Mathis, of Tallahassee, Florida.  

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2020 in the Wesley Center at First United Methodist Church in Marianna with Rev. Dr. Nathan Attwood officiating.  Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Maddox Chapel Funeral Home directing.
