Joseph “Joe” Richard Skeens, age 66, of Alford, FL passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at home. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer.
Joe was born on September 25, 1956, in Jackson, Ohio to the late Edgar Eugene Skeens Sr. and Maxine Frances Skeens. He met the love of his life, Lois Estelle Cartwright, in 1975 and they married two years later. They shared 47 years of marriage and had two daughters. He worked as a trucker for Gay’s Logging for 16 years. He retired and enjoyed a quiet life at home with his wife.
Joe was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren made him so proud. In his spare time from work and family, you would find him outside working on his race car. He spent every Saturday night racing his own car or watching and cheering for his fellow drivers. He was a spiritual man and loved listening to sermons by Reverend Dwight Skeans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Maxine Skeens; his brother, Edgar Skeens Jr.; two infant siblings, and a special cousin, Dwight Skeans.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Skeens; two daughters, Tanya Skeens (Matt) of Alford and Tammy Rogers (Chris) of Altha; grandchildren, Austin Skeens (A’Lexus) of Southport, Gabbie Whitehead (Tannor) of Cottondale, Brianna Miller (Nathan) of Chipley, Jonathan Morales of Cottondale, Cristian Aguillon-Tovar of Cottondale and Melina Aguillon-Tovar of Altha; great grandchildren Gracie Skeens and Tycen Whitehead; sisters, Kathy Larson (Bill) of Lake Wales, FL and Leona King (Houston) of Sebring, FL; brother, John Skeens of Port Richey, FL and nephew Jeremy Bolin (Dhyana) of Ozark, AL.as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. LaVon Pettis officiating. Interment will follow in Alford City Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends from 9 A.M. until the time of service at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.
