Jordyn Riano made her decision final last Friday before friends, teammates, family, faculty and staff at Sneads High School when she signed to continue her volleyball playing days. When she leaves Sneads, she will head to Florida Gateway College to make an impact on their team. She’s following two other Sneads seniors who will be continuing their playing days next year.
Riano knows what it takes to win, having served as captain her senior year for the Lady Pirates and the proud owner of three state championship rings throughout her tenure at Sneads High School. She was named MaxPreps 2019-20 Sneads Volleyball Player of the Year. That was with just reason as she recorded 2,011 assists, 155 aces, 455 digs, 32 kills and 10 bocks in the 193 sets she played.
Her senior year happened because of something that was instilled in her as a child. Originally not wanting to play her final season, she opted to play for the team, “I was always taught to not to be full of myself, always be selfless, put others before yourself sometimes. That a team is a family and I’ve treated every team as my family and I’ve always put them before me.”
Sneads head coach Heather Brinkmeyer Edge couldn’t be prouder of Riano, “As a coach, watching a player work hard every single day and then finish their career with the opportunity to play next level is the ultimate reward. This is far more important than state championships! Jordyn will do great things for FGC volleyball all while advancing her education. I can’t wait to make the trip to Lake City to watch her play. She is beyond deserving of everything that’s coming her way! Go Timberwolves!”
Edge did not forget the force behind this player, “And a huge shoutout to the parents and family behind this kid. Through sports, you have provided Jordyn with incredible life-lessons that will serve her well throughout the rest of her life. Win or lose, she has built character directly because of your support & efforts. Thank you for giving up so much of your time year after year, traveling all over the state to cheer on your baby girl. Thank you for trusting in not only me but In all the coaches that have come into her life. She has been such a blessing and joy to us all.”
