Jackson County announced an extension for open enrollment for the ‘School of Choice Plan’. Parents and students have until May 31 to apply. Under this plan, students are able to attend a school outside of their designation school zone. The original deadline was March 31.
According to the district’s website, preferential treatment is provided to military dependents; foster care relocations; court ordered custody change or serious illness/death of a parent; and students residing in the district.
Superintendent of schools Larry Moore said he felt it necessary to extend the enrollment deadline due to the current pandemic situation, “They can submit applications to the schools that are available based on capacity. If there’s available capacity, then they can attend school outside of their regular zone.”
The following schools are available for school choice applications: Cottondale Elementary, Cottondale High, Graceville Elementary, Grand Ridge School, J.C. Virtual School, Malone School, Marianna K-8, Marianna High, Sneads Elementary and Sneads High.
Students and parents can apply by filling out an electronic application on the school district’s website. You may call the district office at (850)482-1200. For a list of available schools under the plan, visit https://www.jcsb.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1179486&type=d&pREC_ID=1632523.
