Howard Warren Almand, Jr., 84, of Marianna passed away on January 10, 2023, in Tallahassee, FL. He was born on September 2, 1938 to the late Howard Warren Almand and Hazel Tripp Almand in Brooklyn, NY. The oldest of three children he was preceeded in death by his sister Marcia and brother Walter.
He was a long-time member of Harmony Lodge No. 3 and various other Masonic bodies. Some of his many achievements included being a 32nd degree Mason, Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Most Illustrious Grand Master and Past Master.
As a young man he served our country as a Marine. Although he didn’t make the Marines a career, he did have a long career at Chipola (Jr.) College as an English Professor for over 37 years. Both of which were the backbone for his strong and moral character, willing to serve, and assisting/helping anyone at anytime that he could.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lydia M. Almand of Marianna, and his daughters, Carol Mayhall of Tallahassee and Mary Almand of Marianna. Out of state releatives include a brother-in-law, neice, nephew and cousins.
The funeral will be Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 Central Time in the Sanctuary at the First United Methodist Church in Marianna with Dr. Nathan Attwood, pastor, officiating. It will be streamed live at https://www.facebook.com/fumcmarianna/. The family will receive visitors starting at 10:00 Central Time in the Wesley Center at First United Methodist Church. If so inclined, instead of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in his memory to the Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center,(where his widow is residing), for the Physical & Occupational Therapy Depts; Marianna First United Methodist Church (where he was a long-time member), Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Masonic Home of Florida, the National Park Foundation, or any other charity of your choice. The family would also appreciate written any stories that you would like to share as they would like to include them in a Book of Memories.
