Hershel George McDaniel, 83, was born to Jesse David and Trudy Holmes McDaniel on November 23, 1936, in Jackson County, Florida. He took the hand of his Savior and passed peacefully to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, in Houston, Texas. Hershel was a man of many talents. One of his greatest talents was his sense of humor that always kept you laughing. Hershel enjoyed having lively conversations with family and friends. He was known for the energy and great enthusiasm he brought to life. Hershel was loved and admired for his friendliness. He never met a stranger. Hershel brought laughter and joy to all those blessed to know him. Hershel was also known for his deep faith in God and his unconditional love for family and friends. His two greatest treasures in life were his Savior and his family. In his younger years, Hershel used his talents in construction and worked with his brothers on many beautiful buildings and structures that still grace the landscapes of Florida and Texas to this day. In the 60’s, Hershel along with brothers and cousins worked on the construction of the Amistad Dam and Power Plant located across the Rio Grande River in Del Rio, Texas. Hershel’s construction talents took him to many different places, but his heart was always with his family. He married the love of his life, Betty McDaniel, and they spent several years raising their three children in Sneads and Grand Ridge, Florida. Hershel and Betty would later relocate to Texas. There he and Betty continued to enjoy a beautiful life in Texas with their children and grandchildren. Hershel and Betty both had a talent for songwriting and singing. Together they wrote and recorded many original hymns to praise their Lord for all His blessings. After Betty’s passing, Hershel lived the remainder of his years in Texas surrounded by the love of his three children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. They were the light of his life. Hershel’s children and their families made certain his Golden Years were truly golden. He believed them to be his greatest achievements and would light up with pride each time he talked about them. Family was cherished by Hershel, and he was cherished by his family. He made us all who we are today, and we are grateful for the love, laughter, and meaning he brought to our lives. He will remain in our hearts until we meet again in Heaven where there will be no more goodbyes. His was a life well-lived, and he was well-loved.

Hershel is predeceased by his loving wife of 32 years Betty Jean McDaniel. He is also preceded in death by his parents Jesse David and Trudy Holmes McDaniel, brothers:  Johnney Earl McDaniel, JT Johnson, and Clarence Johnson, and his sisters: Allie McDaniel, Nellie Griffin, and Audrey Harris.
