Ms. Helen Jean Lights age 81 of Panama City, FL (formerly of Bascom, FL) passed away Friday, February 7th at the Chautauqua Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Defuniak Springs, FL.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p. m. Saturday, February 15th at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at 717 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in Panama City, FL where Dr. Jesse Nelson is pastor with Reverend C. Dwight Woods officiating. The body will lie in state 2 hours prior to the service. Interment will follow in Garden of Memory Cemetery located 4035 East 15th Street Panama City, FL with McKinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton directing.
Ms. Helen Jean Lights was born on September 25, 1938, to the late Carlwell and Inez White in Bascom, FL.
She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Liberty Hill Baptist where she remained a faithful member until she relocated to Brooklyn, New York in 1962. In New York she continued her dedication to the Lord and was a member of St. Stephen Church of Christ-Disciples of Christ and Pilgrim Church of East New York. At St. Stephen, she was a faithful member of the Ensembles choir.
In 2004, she retired to Panama City where she joined the Family of God Baptist Church.
Helen had a love for singing and wearing the color red. She often entertained the residents and employees of the Nursing Facility with songs. She really enjoyed red outfits and her face would light up when she received a red outfit as a gift.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son George Lights, Jr. Siblings, Verda Nell Cruel, James White, Neporah Bowers and Shirley Rivers and granddaughter, Kali Goddard.
She leaves to cherish her memories; children; Sandra Harris of Baltimore, MD, Xuripha (Kevin) Ancrum of Panama City, FL, Michele Sanders of Clayton, NC, Joclyn Lights of Raleigh, NC and Carl Lights of Bronx, NY; brother: JC White of Bascom, FL; sister-in-law: Deloris Bowers of Bascom, FL; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
