The Grand Ridge Lady Indians softball team improved to 4-1 last week with another solid win. They defeated the visiting Surfside/BPA Ray Sharks 13-6 with Ella Ann Childs in the circle.
Childs went the distance of five innings, gave up six unearned runs on five hits, three walks and struck out five batters.
Grand Ridge shut down the Ray Sharks offense in the first inning, keeping them off the board but answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Gabby Bellamy started things off with a walk, stole second and took third on a wild pitch. Jadyn Riano added an RBI to her stats when she singled to score Bellamy. Addy Duboise followed suit with a single, putting runners on the corners. A sac by Ella Ann Childs plated Riano before Duboise scored on a passed ball. Ella Sprouse drew a walk and moved to second on an error. Madison Nesmith sacrificed Sprouse to third before she scored on a wild pitch. Gabbi Sellers singled and moved to second when Reagan Watkins drew a walk. A strike out ended the inning.
Surfside countered with three runs in the top of the second inning but Grand Ridge had an answer in their half of the frame. Gabby Bellamy led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a single by Jadyn Riano. Both runners advanced on a stolen base with Bellamy scoring on the stolen base. Addy Duboise took one for the team to load the bases. Ella Ann Childs hit into a fielder’s choice with everyone safe on the play and Riano scoring. Ella Sprouse and Madison Nesmith went back-to-back each taking one for the team and picking up a couple of painful RBIs. Gabbi Sellers sacrificed the runners on a deep fly ball to left field before Reagan Watkins drew her second consecutive walk. Meagan Harrison drew a walk to plate a run before Gabby Bellamy singled for the second time in the inning, scoring another run. Jadyn Riano took it a couple of bases further in her second at bat of the inning with a triple to right centerfield to empty the bases before a strikeout ended the inning.
Surfside added three in the third with Grand Ridge putting up a goose egg. A two-out single by Madison Nesmith was the only offense for the Lady Indians in their half of the third.
Meagan Harrison doubled to get things going in the fourth inning for Grand Ridge. Gabby Bellamy drew a walk and with one out, Addy Duboise was hit by a pitch. Harrison scored before the inning came to an end for the final run, sealing the 13-6 victory.
