Our beloved brother, Gene David Adams, 69, passed away from complications due to COVID-19 on September 16, 2021.
Gene is survived by his brother and sister, Scott and Laurie and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Phyllis Adams, of Lake Talquin, FL. Gene lived in and around Tallahassee since 1958.
Our brother was a kind and gentle soul, remembered fondly by all who knew him. He loved the guitar, the popular music of the 1960’s and 70’s, with a particular focus on British bands, especially the Beatles. Any memorabilia associated with the Beatles brought him joy. He loved the flavor of orange, particularly orange sherbet. Toward the end of his life, he also developed a fondness for cheeseburgers.
Having been disabled, Gene was loved and cared for most of his life by many very special people. For the last 21 years, the caregivers at Varnum’s Rest Home in Bristol, FL including Ruby, Kay, Sandra, Jessica, Pam and others were his “other family”. They provided Gene joy and companionship. They shared that he was always quick with a smile and had the ability to make them laugh. Our family is forever indebted to the folks at Varnum’s for the love and comfort they provided him.
In memory of Gene, our family suggests donations to Varnum’s Rest Home and their residents. They are a private facility funded by the residents themselves who depend on very limited fixed incomes. The caregivers at Varnum’s have been known to provide for their residents out of their own pockets.
Despite being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, Gene had underlying health conditions that caused him to succumb to a breakthrough infection. In memory of Gene and others like him who are vulnerable, please get vaccinated and practice safe COVID protocols.
No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of McAlpin Funeral Home in Sneads, Fl.
