Last Saturday night, the Dellwood Baptist Church was bursting at the seams – all in support of a very worthwhile cause. Jackson County packed the house for a meal prior to a gospel sing in support of the Dellwood Volunteer Fire Department.
Pastor Gary Gable, known throughout the county for his giving nature and support of all things Jackson County, opened his church’s doors. They had an abundance of help to keep the hot dogs, chips, sweets and cold drinks replenished as supporters continued coming in to the fellowship hall to enjoy a meal before moving to the church for a night of great gospel music provided by Swiftwater.
A cake auction added to the excitement of the evening with supporters paying top dollar for good old Jackson County homemade cakes. Just the looks of them sitting on display had tongues wagging about the prices they would bring. Two cakes, a butternut and an Italian cream were so popular they sold twice. Investigator Jeff Snell with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Commissioner Jim Peacock opted for a slimmer figure after taking the winning bids on their chosen cakes and returned them for resale to the delight of two who had lost out on the bidding.
When all was said and done, everyone left with a smile on their face but none more so than the Dellwood Volunteer Fire Department who were the benefactors of the generosity shown with over $5,000 being raised.
Pastor Gary Gable could not have been prouder of the turnout as he posted on social media, “What a wonderful night we had at Dellwood Baptist Church tonight! We had a fantastic cake auction, and the community came out to support the fire department. A total of $5,179 for the Dellwood Volunteer Fire Department. We like to thank everyone who came tonight, everyone who donated, all those who worked to make this happen, and a special thank you to Swiftwater for a wonderful gospel sing. A special thank you also to Janice Hunter Strawser who made all the delicious cakes for the cake auction!”
He concluded, “Finally, we’d like to thank the firefighters with the Dellwood Volunteer Fire Department for all they do to keep our communities and families safe. These are real heroes who sacrifice their time and put their lives on the line for us.”
