Jesus breathed life into the body of Sister Evan Portee on August 5, 1950 to Floy Portee and the late Earnest James Portee. Her mother moved her and the rest of the family to Lake Placid, Florida at an early age where she joined the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Floyd Key. She graduated from E.O. Douglass High School in Sebring, Florida.
Evan was a very active and devoted person in her community and church. She was a member of the Mass Choir. In addition to her church service, Evan was active in the community where she served on the NAACP Highlands County Branch, Highway Park Neighborhood Council, but her main focus was her concern for the kids in the community, as she worked for R.C.M.A. for forty-one years.
On January 10, 2020 the Lord plucked His beautiful rose in Sebring. He decided that it was time for her to join Him in His heavenly home forever. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by a brother, David Hunter and a sister, Gloria Portee.
She leaves precious memories to be forever cherished by a loving and devoted mother, Sister Floy Portee of Marianna; two loving and devoted sons, Anthony Portee of Lake Placid, Florida and Michael Portee of Sebring, Florida; four sisters, Margaret Hunter, Elouise Armstead both of Marianna, Mary Portee of Lake Placid, Florida and Dorothy Portee of Miami, Florida; five brothers, Earnest Portee, Sr. (Janice) of Sebring, Florida, Leslie Portee of Lake Placid, Florida, Alphonso Portee of Marianna, Sylvester Evans of Panama City, Florida and Robert Copeland (Donna) of Lake Placid, Florida; two aunts, Maggie Russ of Chicago, Illinois and Betty J. Wilson of Lake Placid, Florida; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two god-children, Dominik Pringle and Antayvion Bostic; two god-sisters, Rossalind Hubbert and Velma Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, January 25th at 11a.m. EST at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Placid. Interment will follow with Swann Mortuary of Sbring directing. Information provided by the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
