Deacon Mitchell D. Hayes Jr.


Deacon Mitchell D. Hayes Jr age 75 of Malone, FL passed away, Monday November 20, 2023 at HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital in Panama City, Florida surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held 11a.m. Saturday December 2nd at Second Macedonia Baptist Church located at 5346 15th Street Malone, FL with Reverend Claude Holden officiating Interment will follow in the church cemetery and with McKinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton, FL directing.

A public viewing for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday December 1st at the Shira Sr. and Chelcie McKinnie Memorial Chapel located at 5304 Bowden Hill Road Campbellton, FL.

Mitchell was born in Jackson County to the late Mitchell Hayes Jr. and Lillie Mae Farrell. He was raised in Malone, FL by his grandparents the late Mary Julia Hayes and Mitchell “Bud” Hayes.  Deacon Hayes was a faithful and dedicated member of Second Macedonia Baptist Church Malone, FL and a very active member in his community.      He graduated from Union Grove High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked several jobs in New York mainly DuPont Cleaners and Department of Traffic. Once he moved back to Malone, FL. He worked many years at Dozier School for Boys until his retirement.  

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Beverly Hayes, parents, one grand Tommy Anderton: Two sisters Robin Hayes and Michelle Santana. One brother Horace “Duck” Clark Jr. and special aunt Lillie Mack Hair.

He leaves his love and a lifetime of cherished memories with his son: Mitchell D. Hayes IV (Ashley) of Malone, FL. Two children he raised as his own Lamar Anderton (Rhonda) and Vinetta Anderton.

Seven grandchildren, MJ, Shaniyah, Demetrius, Jordan, Maya, Jamal and Tia. One brother, Al Hayes of Brooklyn, NY. One sister, Barbara Fed of Marianna, FL. Special nieces Lillie Mae and Michaela Johnson both of Malone, FL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
