Dalton Eugene Barnes, 81, of Marianna, Florida died Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at his home in Kynesville, Florida.
He was born on December 23, 1939, in Andalusia, Alabama to parents, Dalton and Ruth Barnes. After high school days at Andalusia and Bushnell, he began working at White Auto Store. That led to a career path involving tires. In 1972, Eugene established Barnes Tire and Service on Jackson Street in Marianna, Florida. He stayed in the tire business for 48 more years, until 2018.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and a Master Mason of Harmony Lodge Number 3 of Marianna, Florida, receiving a Fifty-Five year Certificate (May 1965 – June 21, 2020). He loved his family and friends and greatly enjoyed their visits. He was known for his gentle spirit and kindness to everyone. Eugene was helping out often, always trying to make our life a little easier. He liked the simple things of life, and was always ready for a half cup of coffee. He will be dearly missed by our family.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton Barnes of Andalusia, Ruth Sellers Barnes Cook (lived at Fitzgerald, GA); one son, Daniel Eugene Barnes (Candace) of Marianna, Florida.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Sue; one son, David Barnes and wife, Brenda of Andalusia, Alabama; two daughters, Denise Merrifield of Kynesville; Suzanne Adams and husband, Landis of Prattville, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Amber Barnes Radford, Mark, John and wife, Ashley, Mallory Purvis and husband, Brandon, Mary Sue Woodruff and husband, Joe, Caroline Dean and husband, Joshua, Sara Kate Chaffer and husband, Joel, Caleb Joseph Barnes; 11 great-grandchildren, Sean, Seth, Tyler, Liam, Lawson, John Michael, Stella, Simon, Hattie Mae, Magnolia, Adaline; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 5:00 PM Thursday, November 11, 2021 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Joey Woodruff officiating. Visitation will be immediately following the funeral service until 6:30 PM.
Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 12, 2021 at Conecuh River Baptist Church in Andalusia, Alabama with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
