Mark Skinner | TIMES - Cottondale’s Cody Foran tries to break through the center of the Liberty County line Friday.

The Cottondale Hornets traveled to Bristol Friday night to take on the Liberty County Bulldogs. They were hungry for a win and Liberty County was their victim as they scored early and scored often in route to a 28-7 victory. It improves the Hornets 1-2, with their other win coming in a preseason game.
Caleb Nix took it to the house from 70 yards away for the first touchdown of the game. At the end of one quarter of play, it was Cottondale 6-0.
The next touchdown came off the arm of Nix to Qui’darius Henderson for a touchdown. That wasn’t enough for the Pirates though. Right before the Damien St. Fleur ran for a touchdown to make it a 20-0 Hornet lead at the half.
The Hornets took the field in the second half with every bit of determination they had in the first. It was Cody Foran making his way to the promised land for the final Hornet touchdown of the night, giving Cottondale a 28-0 lead. Liberty County scored with less than five minutes to go in the game for a 28-7 final.
Cottondale’s veteran coach had a rare smile on his face following the game and as always a very short response, “God smiled on us tonight!”
The Hornets will host Bozeman this Friday night on Hornet field with their goal set to even their record as 2-2. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
