Bonnie Pauline Burroughs Shackelford of Grand Ridge, FL passed away on March 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Bonnie was born November 09, 1951, in Beckley, West Virginia. Bonnie married the love of her life, John Shackelford in 1969 and began their family in Northern Virginia. In the mid-seventies, John and Bonnie relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia where together they raised their five children. John and Bonnie had a big heart and fostered many children over the years to ensure a loving environment was provided when they needed it most. Bonnie also owned and operated a home daycare while her children were growing up. She then worked as the Garden Center manager at KMart and retired with 20 years of service. After that she worked at Williamsburg-James City County School System as a Bus Monitor. She was assigned to a special needs bus and loved her children dearly; she was always helping them in one way or another. In 2016, she moved to Grand Ridge, Florida. Bonnie was also a woman of great faith and attended Sneads United Methodist Church. She was a dog lover who constantly adopted any strays that came around and enjoyed gardening, especially flowers. Most of all she loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Virginia Burroughs; her husband, John Shackelford; and two brothers, David C. Burroughs and James (Butch) Burroughs.
Bonnie is survived by her three daughters, Melinda Elam (Nicholas) of VA, Becky Hart (Richie) of FL, and Joy Snyder of VA; two sons, Bobby Shackelford of VA and Jason Shackelford of AZ; three sisters, Debbie Barnes of VA, Lori Potter (John) of VA and Trici Myers (Glen) of OH; twelve grandchildren, Michael, Ceira, Zachery, Ashley, Madison, Patrick, Emily, Spencer, Logan, Hunter, Victoria, and Daniel; eleven great-grandchildren as well as many other extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sneads First United Methodist Church in memory of Ms. Bonnie.
A Celebration of Life service for Ms. Bonnie will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at 3:00 PM Central Time at McAlpin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Von Keyserling officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will be later at Williamsburg Memorial Park in Williamsburg, Virginia.
