Board of County Commissioners updated on COVID

Sandy Martin, Jackson County Department of Health Administrator updated the board Tuesday morning on the latest numbers during the regularly scheduled meeting.

As of August 11, the number of positive cases rose to 1936 cases, up 39 cases from Monday, August 10. Of the 1936 reported cases, the health department is presently monitoring 99 cases Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Martin said 14% of our positive cases are from long-term care with 49% from prisons. The positivity rate for Jackson County rose to 16.1%, up from 15.6%. There were three additional deaths, bringing the total to 41 COVID related deaths in Jackson County. Martin said 36 of those deaths were from long-term care, two from prisons and three from the community

There have been 102 hospitalized with 21 presently in Jackson Hospital. Six of those are on ventilators and four of the patients on ventilators are from long-term care.
As of 8/11/2020, there were 17 positive cases under the age of four, 52 positives from age 5-14 and 181 positive cases from 15-24. The number of 18 and under is 100, up three from Wednesday. Ages 15-17 would have 34 positive cases. The positivity rate for 18 and under is 11.4%.
