In the early morning hours on October 19, 2023, Billie Edward Owens, fondly known as Bill,
passed away peacefully in Marianna, Florida. Bill was born in Dellwood, Florida on October
15, 1943, to the late L. E. Owens and Beatrice Grice Owens. He graduated from Sneads High
School in 1961, where he was on the first football team for the Sneads Pirates and made the first
touchdown. After high school he was employed at the Florida State Hospital’s Fire Department
and then for CSX Railroad where he retired from. He had a special love for his classic cars and
Florida State football.
He is survived by his devoted wife Ann of Sneads, FL; three sons, John (Mary Kathryn) of
Tallahassee, FL, William of Sneads, FL, and Brad (Marcy) of Westville, FL; four
grandchildren, Bridgit, Jonathan, Allison and Bradley; two brothers, Jerry (Gail) of Charleston,
SC, and Rick of Gainesville, FL; one sister Joan (James) of Bouse, AZ, as well as several
uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held in Dykes Cemetery celebrating the life of Bill on Saturday,
October 21, 2023, beginning at 10:00 AM Central Time with Rev. Robert Johns officiating and
McAlpin Funeral Home directing.
The family would like to send special thanks to the nurses and staff of Emerald Coast Hospice
and Marianna Health and Rehab for the care, support and attention given to Bill and his family
during his stay.
