Betty Jean Helms age 83 of Jackson County, Florida went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in Dothan, Alabama. She was born on February 19, 1938 to the late Charlie E. Johnson and Lorene Givens Johnson. Betty spent most of her life in Gadsden and Jackson County where she raised nine children. She was a homemaker that enjoyed sewing her children clothes and doing needle point. She was of the Pentecostal faith and loved Jesus. Betty was a past member of Evangel Worship Center in Marianna, Florida and had recently been attending New Smyrna Assembly of God in Bonifay, Florida. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George H. Helms; one son, Charles H. Helms; one daughter, Donna Connelly; one granddaughter, Teresa Lynn Braxton, and one son in law, James Bryant.
Betty is survived by her children, Yvette Bryant, Debra Downs (David), Greg Helms, Lisa Best (Richard), Ulonda Peterson (Wayne), Charla Helms, and George Junior Helms; one son in law, John Connelly; one daughter in law, Dot Helms; one brother, Raymond Johnson, thirty-one grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 in the Altha Church of God at 2:00 P.M. Central Time with Reverend John Richbourg officiating. A private burial will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Chattahoochee, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral in the church.
