Bette Jean Hewett Smith, 86, died December 20, 2018 at the Gingerich Home for the Elderly in Farmington, New Mexico. She was born February 16, 1932 in Cypress, FL, the youngest of seven siblings of Viola and Ira Sellers. Bette grew up in the Cypress and Grand Ridge area of Jackson County Florida and she lived most of her life in Gainesville, FL, Dothan, AL and Jupiter, FL. But in her later years, she resided with family in the West. She was a beautician, a homemaker, an active member of her church and loved to sing.
Bette was married to the late Leo Hewett of Grand Ridge, FL and to Charles Smith of Gainesville, FL. She is survived by one daughter, Betty Shelley of AL, two sons, Fred Hewett of Bayfield, CO and Tim Hewett of Silverton, CO, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the Cypress Community Cemetery on Thursday, March 28 at 11:00 AM.
