Amelia Carol Howell, a cherished soul whose warmth and vivacity touched all who knew her, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024, in her hometown of Chattahoochee, FL, where she was also born on August 13, 1957. Amelia’s life was a testament to the love and joy she found in her family, friends, and the simple pleasures of life.

Amelia was the beloved daughter of the late Carl Steven Hardisky and Thelma Lee Lewis Hardisky and loving sister to her late brother, Steve Hardisky. She is survived by her son, Josh Smith (Amanda), and her daughter, Kimberly Fleener (Ron). Amelia was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren: Trace Bush, Cierra Bush, Jada Smith, Gage Smith, and Colton Smith, who will carry forward her spirit of kindness and generosity.

She also leaves behind her sisters, Mickie Liddell (Walter) and Pam Brown, who will miss her dearly. Amelia’s life was enriched by the companionship of four special friends and neighbors: Vivian Basford, Janice Cloud, Jean Grogg, and Glenn Howell. Her passing is also mourned by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends, all of whom she loved deeply.

A graduate of Chattahoochee High School in 1975, Amelia dedicated many years of service to Florida State Hospital before later working as a cashier. Her work ethic and commitment to her community were evident to all who worked alongside her.

Amelia’s passions included trips to Mexico Beach, cheering on FSU Football, and the thrill of NASCAR. She was a culinary enthusiast, known for her famous Boston Butt on the grill, and her love for cooking was only surpassed by the joy she found in sharing meals with loved ones.

As Helen Keller once said, “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Amelia’s love and laughter have indeed become a part of all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished forever.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by McAlpin Funeral Home once they are finalized.
