Alma Marie Padgett, 78, of Marianna died Monday, May 29, 2023, in Jackson Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Marie was born January 15, 1945, in Marianna to James and Treaster Hussey. She was the sixth of seven children. She graduated Marianna High School in 1963. She married the love of her life, Ernest Joe Padgett, and they had one daughter, Del Padgett Pedigo. She had various jobs until their daughter started school. Marie then attended Chipola College School of Cosmetology and she worked 44 years before retiring from Hair Expressions. Even while working she was involved in the activities of her daughter. Marie was an avid FSU Seminole football fan and she loved attending their games with her husband, Joe, family, and friends. Marie was a creative who loved art, painting, sewing, dance, music, photography, flowers, and travel. She was the recipient of several awards for her own art creations and their home is filled with her work. She had a way of seeing beauty in everything.

Being the wife of a farmer she was no stranger to hard work and the natural outdoors. Marie liked to hunt and was an excellent shot. She is known to have killed a buck out of their den window. Marie was an excellent cook and she loved to feed people. To her only grandson, Alexander Pedigo, she was Mimi. The two shared a special bond and she instilled her love of cooking in him.

She was an active member of Damascus Freewill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was a door greeter, participated in the STARS women’s ministry, and served faithfully.

Marie’s eyes and smile would light up the room. She was a ‘second’ mom to many. Loving and caring for her family was such a joy for her and she did that well. We are all blessed to have been the recipients of that love. Having been married for sixty and a half years, she and Joe shared some beautiful moments even in these last few weeks. Her love was endless.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James & Treaster Hussey; brothers, Jim Hussey & Thomas Hussey; and sisters, Jean Jeter, Sybil Brogdon, and Joyce Prince.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Padgett; daughter, Del Pedigo (Alex); and grandson, Alexander Pedigo; one brother and a host of nieces and nephews.

James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will take place at a future date.
