A “songbird” is in heaven singing with the Angels. Aunt Alice Holloway passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 30, 2022, in Marianna, Florida.

Aunt Alice was born in Panama City, Florida on November 29, 1935, and lived with her grandparents, who provided her a loving and Christian home. She would stand on the piano bench while her grandmother played and sang the hymns of her church. After completion of high school, she worked in her uncle’s Christian bookstore. While working at the bookstore, she met Jack Holloway who worked next door for the Panama City Fire Department. They married and she became a member of the large Holloway family (10 brothers and sisters, many nieces, and nephews). After Jack retired, they relocated to Sneads, Florida and she began a career with the Florida Department of Corrections until she retired in 2005.

Following Jack’s death, she became an animal lover and mother to fur babies, Jake and Ginger. Aunt Alice was also a “collector,” i.e., apple motif, Pillsbury Doughboys, cookbooks, Christmas villages, John Deere equipment, Thomas Kincaid, Bibles, gospel music CDs and porcelain dolls. For family outings, everyone requested her macaroni and cheese and pineapple pound cake.

Aunt Alice was active in her church, Sneads Assembly of God, and loved her church family very much. She enjoyed going on the senior trips with her friends, eating out, attending gospel concerts (especially the Gaither Tour), singing in church and Bible Study.

When the time came that she needed assistance with daily living skills, she found a new home at The Courtyard in Marianna. The staff became a family for her, seeing to her every need. She enjoyed the various church groups that would come and minister to everyone at the center. A baby doll named Susie became her constant companion.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory, especially her niece Nancy Andler, who was her guardian and faithful primary caregiver.

The family of Aunt Alice would like to extend their sincere thanks to the following: Bro. Juno Douglas and Sneads Assembly of God, Brad Nobles and all the nursing and CNA staff at the Courtyard, Jackson Hospital, as well as the many folks that would drop by and visit with her at the center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate in memory of Aunt Alice to the Women’s Ministry of Sneads Assembly of God Church or to the Activities Department at The Courtyard in Marianna, FL.

Services are planned for Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the Sneads Assembly of God Church at 11:00 AM CST with Dr. Juno Douglas officiating and McAlpin Funeral Home directing. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery in Grand Ridge, FL.
