Alfred “Gene” Roney, 81, of Marianna, Florida died Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Gulf Coast Hospital. Gene was born August 29, 1941, in Winter Garden, Florida to Annie and Howard Roney.
He attended and graduated from Winter Park High School. He served his country faithfully in the Navy and retired after 29 years of dedicated service. He, and his wife of over 60 years Nena, lived in many places throughout the states and overseas while also traveling extensively.
Gene enjoyed many hobbies including fishing and watching old westerns. Around the holidays, he loved to bake cookies and pecan pie for everyone to give as their Christmas Gift. He was a good son to his mother, a loving husband to his wife, a wonderful father to his children, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Jewell and Howard Roney; and daughter, Brenda Lynn Roney.
He is survived by his wife, Filipina “Nena” Roney; children, Liz Edington, and husband, John; Debbie Roney Smith, and husband, Sonny; Alfred Roney, Jr; grandchildren, Nena White, and husband, Matthew, Joey Williams and wife, Jennifer, David Beckom, Jarod Roney, Kyle Roney, Benjamin Roney; great-grandchildren, Matthew Williams, and Meredith Williams.
Funeral services will be 11 AM (CST), Monday, June 5, 2023, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church with Father Philip Fortin officiating and James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at St. Anne’s.
Burial with military honors will take place at 1 PM (EST), Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Dr., Winter Park, FL 32789 with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
