The Florida High School Athletic Association held two lengthy meetings this week before coming to a decision on high school fall sports. Monday the board met for four and a half hours before returning on Thursday evening for a two-plus hour meeting.

The concern is and has been the growing number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Florida. Arguments were presented on both sides as far as starting on time (July 28) or to postpone it for one to three weeks. After much consideration, arguments from both sides, the decision was made to postpone the start of fall practice for sports until August 24, 2020. That is the same day as Jackson County Schools are scheduled to open. The teams may continue with their summer conditioning until that time as long as they maintain CDC guidelines for social distancing.

The Board will reconvene on August 17 (if not sooner) to revisit where the state is in COVID-19 cases at that time.
