Jimmie Doyle Newton, Sr., 74, of Panama City, formerly of Greenwood, FL passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021. He was born May 7, 1947 in Panama City.


Jimmie was a 1967 graduate of Bay High School. At 15 years of age, he learned how to cut meat at Hill’s IGA. He continued his career for over 50 years at various locations all over Florida and Georgia. In 2018, he finally retired from Greenwood Supermarket. He loved fishing, watching FSU football, playing pool, listening to classic country music, and telling stories of his youth. Jimmie especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Francie Newton of 27 years; parents, Jim and Cora Lee Newton; sister, Thelma Barrett; and his special dog, Precious.

Those left to cherish Jimmie’s memory include his son, Jimmie D. Newton Jr. “JD” and wife, Theresa; grandchildren, Hayley, Ava and Jayce; brothers, Earl Newton (Gail) and Rodger Newton; sisters, Mary Newton Richards and Linda Pierce; nieces and nephews, Michele Brackett (Glen), Angela Hall (James), Craig Walters, Larla Eubanks, Kim Walker, Josh Richards and Mika Newton; numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins, close friends, employees and patrons of Greenwood Supermarket.


A Celebration of Jimmie’s Life will be held 6:00 P.M., Monday, August 2, 2021 at Heritage Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack Hankins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
