The Marianna Bulldogs are riding high after a 2-0 shutout of the visiting Rutherford Rams in quarter-regional action at Bulldog Field last Tuesday night.  Coach Bobby Hughes sent his ace, junior Cameron Gray to the mound for the Bulldogs.  Gray went the distance and picked up the win.  Gray gave up no runs, allowed two hits, one walk, and had two runners reach on errors.  Gray fanned six batters on the night.

In the bottom of the first inning, Marianna had opportunity with two base runners but could not execute a run.  Gray led off with a single, followed by Josh Baxley drawing a walk but neither crossed the plate.

In the second inning, Marianna was three up, three down.  A one-out hit by Gray was erased on a double play ball.

The Bulldogs finally got on the board in the fourth inning on a solo shot by Chipola College-bound Cody Gwin.  With two outs, Caleb Torbett took one for the team, but a groundout to third ended the inning.

With two outs in the fifth inning, Gray drew a walk, followed by a single by Josh Baxley but neither were able to cross the plate.

The final run came in the sixth inning when Cody Gwin doubled with one out and scored on a single by Wilton Pittman.  Caleb Torbett drew a walk but no further runs scored.

Marianna was scheduled to take on Bay High Tuesday night at Bulldog Field at 7 p.m.  A win over Bay and the Bulldogs travel to Jacksonville the following Tuesday to take on the winner of the Bolles-Bishop Kenny game.
