The Marianna Bulldogs visited the Sneads Pirates for a little county rivalry in baseball last week with the Pirates taking the 6-1 win behind the pitching of Justin Tye and Russell Allen. Tye got the starting nod on the mound, went six and two-thirds innings to pick up the win. He surrendered one run on six hits, no walks and fanned five batters. Allen came in to close out the game, gave up no runs on no hits, no walks and struck out one batter. Marianna countered with Beau Alday who took the loss, going four innings, giving up four earned runs on five hits, one walk and sitting four batters down on strikes. Cole Nobles closed out the final two innings, gave up one run on two hits, one walk and struck out three batters.
Marianna’s sole run came in the first inning when Loren Waldron led off with a single. With one out, Tristan Bozeman sacrificed Waldron to third with Ben Wiggins singling to score him. Wiggins stole second but a ground out ended the inning. Mac Danford took one for the team and stole second but that was as far as it went.
Marianna and Sneads were both three up, three down in the second. Marianna was one, two, three in the third with Sneads’ River Clark singling with one out for the Pirates only offense of the inning. In the fourth inning, Marianna had a one-out double by Ben Wiggins with Wiggins moving to third on a sac by Wesley Pippen. He was left stranded when a ground out ended the inning. Sneads exploded offensively in their half of the frame with five runs crossing the plate. McLane Baxter took one for the team and moved to second on a single by Colton Mercer. An error moved the runners to second and third with Baxter scoring on a sac by Jay-Nathan Hayes. Zach Thomas singled to score Mercer before Russell Allen singled. With two outs, River Clark was hit by a pitch followed by Taylor Brown singling to score a pair of runs. An error allowed another run to score before a ground out ended the inning.
Marianna had a two-out single by Ben Wiggins for their lone offense in the sixth. Sneads led off with a walk to Colton Mercer and with one out, Zach Thomas sacrificed him to second. A single by Russell Allen put runners on the corners but a fly out left them stranded.
With one out in the seventh, Brady Donaldson singled and stole second but was left on base and Marianna was dealt a 6-1 loss.
