Cottondale takes win from Rutherford

The Cottondale Hornets basketball team welcomed the Rutherford Rams last week in Christmas tournament action. The Hornets picked up a 56-49 win over the Rams. 

Cottondale’s offense got off to a sluggish start with Rutherford outscoring them 15-3 in the first quarter. Deshaun Hudson had a shot from downtown to put his team on the scoreboard. 

The Hornets posted 18-second period points and held the Rams to nine, pulling within three of their opponent. Ty’Keece Bryant and Dayron Garrett had eight points each, including each having a shot from downtown. Dalvin Barnes added a basket to his stats. Going into the halftime break, the Hornets trailed 24-21. 

In the third quarter, Cottondale edged by the Rams 16-15 to narrow their opposition’s lead to 39-37. Dalvin Barnes and Qui’Darius Henderson led with four points each.  Dayron Garrett had a shot from downtown. Ty’keece Bryant checked in with a bucket and went one-for-one from the line. 

Cottondale had the hot hands, taking the fourth quarter 19-10, giving the Hornets the win. Deshaun Hudson led with seven points, including a shot from three-point range and was four-for-five from the line. Qui’Darius Henderson added four points to his team’s total. Jordan Galindo had a shot from downtown. Dalvin Barnes was on board with a bucket and went one-for-one from the charity stripe.

Dayron Garrett led the Hornets in scoring with 13 points on the night. Deshaun Hudson followed closely behind with 12 points. In double digits with 11 points was Ty’Keece Bryant. Dalvin Barnes checked in with nine points, followed by Qui’Darius Henderson with eight.
