MARIANNA MIDDLE SOFTBALL = PERFECTION = CONFERENCE CHAMPS

Undefeated and Conference Champions Undefeated and Conference Champions Photo By: Adam Williams

The Marianna Middle School softball team concluded their season last Thursday night without a blemish – not one loss against 24 wins!  It has been a phenomenal year for the Lady Bullpups with the eighth graders making the most of their ‘senior’ season before moving on up to Marianna High School softball with two dozen wins! Coach Jamie Goodwin has quickly made a name for himself in the softball world but only as a very humble coach Goodwin would, gives all the credit to his players.

For the championship game against Suwannee, Goodwin sent his ace Amari Brown to the circle and she didn’t disappoint.  Brown went the distance and picked up the win, allowing just two runs while striking out 11 batters, including the side in the fourth.

Marianna scored early and scored often with the first run coming in the bottom of the first inning and the final two runs in the fifth.  With two outs in the first, Angel Curry singled to get things going. Lexie Spooner tripled to score Curry but a strikeout left her on third.

In the second inning a one-out reach on an error by Aubrie Hinson failed to cross the plate with back-to-back strikeouts, leaving her on third.

Marianna added another run in the third inning when Amari Brown helped herself out with a standup triple and scored on a single by Angel Curry.  Curry was caught stealing and a groundout ended the inning.

The Lady Bullpups plated two runs in the fourth inning. With one out, Jailey Gray took one for the team and moved to second on a wild pitch with two outs. Jasmine Bess singled home Gray and scored on a standup triple by Mattie Rooks before a groundout ended the inning with Marianna leading 4-1.

Marianna’s final two runs came in the fifth inning when Amari Brown doubled for her second hit in the game and moved to third on a wild pitch. Angel Curry drew a walk to put runners on the corners before sacrifice by Lexie Spooner scored Brown.  Lashaina Harvey joined the RBI club and sacrificed Curry home before a groundout ended the inning with Marianna leading 6-2.

Marianna went down in order in the sixth and final inning for them but had more than secured their 24th win and the conference championship!

Congratulations to the MMS Lady Bullpups, their coaches and fans on an awesome season!
