Bulldogs win over Blue Devils

The Marianna Bulldogs made their way to Holmes County to face the Holmes County Blue Devils and defeat them 62-55. 

Both teams posted 12 first-quarter points. Tavis Groomes and Deontre’ Rhynes led Marianna with two baskets each. Nick Pollock and JJ Jackson each nailed a bucket.  

In the second period, Holmes County edged past the Bulldogs 20-19. JJ Jackson led Marianna with seven points, including two baskets and a shot from downtown. Stefon McMillian had a pair of three-point shots. J’Vion Thorton had a bucket and a shot from three-point range. Deontre’ Rhynes added a basket.  Going into the halftime break, Marianna was trailing 32-31.

The Blue Devils narrowly took the third quarter 18-17. Leading the Bulldogs with five points was Deontre Rhynes. Rhynes nailed two buckets and went one-for-two from the charity stripe. Tavis Groomes and McMillian each had four points. Groomes had a bucket and went two-for-two from the line. McMillian added two baskets. Nick Pollock and Thorton each nailed a basket. After three periods of play, The Blue Devils had a 50-48 lead.

Marianna found another gear in the fourth quarter, and poured it on with 14 points while holding Holmes County to five. In the final quarter, Groomes led with seven points, including going seven-for-ten from the charity stripe. Nick Pollock, Stefon McMillian, and Ahmad Johnson each nailed a bucket. 

For Marianna, Tavis Groomes led with 15 points. Deontre’ Rhynes added 13 points to his stats, followed by Stefon McMillian with 11. In double digits with 10 points was JJ Jackson. Checking in with seven points was J’Vion Thorton. On board with six points was Nick Pollock.
