Senior Veryl White tips-off against South Walton Senior Veryl White tips-off against South Walton Photo By: Shelia Mader

To say the Sneads Pirates basketball team was hungry for a win would be like saying a camel following a 300-mile journey in the dessert was thirsty.  The Pirates had a little extra incentive when they took the court Friday night. They had just recognized six seniors prior to the game and the momentum was definitely in their favor.  The Pirates took control early and kept the momentum through to the end when they walked off with a 68-51 win.

Quan Daniels made sure he made the most of his senior night with a pair of three’s and two from the charity stripe in the opening quarter to lead the Pirates with eight of their 17 points.  Xzavier White may be a junior but he was just as eager to insure a win, and posted four points in the first quarter. Senior Jalen Johnson added a shot from downtown with Jay-Nathan Hayes putting up a two and a host of defensive rebounds. At the end of the first quarter, it was Sneads leading 17-14.

South Walton battled back in the second quarter with 11 points to the Pirates 10 points but at the half, Sneads still had the lead, 27-25.  Quan Daniels and senior Jya’meer Williams both posted three points in the second quarter with Chase Harrell and Veryl White posting two points each.

The third quarter was all Pirates with a dominating 19-7 quarter and a lead by as much as 16 in the quarter. Jalen Johnson led the team with seven points, followed by Courtavious Garrett with five, and Chase Harrell had two points in the quarter. At the end of three, it was Sneads leading 46-32.

The Pirates made sure they owned the fourth quarter to secure their win. The Pirates put up 22 points, while keeping South Walton to 19 points. Chase Harrell was stellar from the line, going five for six and added a bucket. Quan Daniels and Jay-Nathan Hayes both posted four points.

Leading the Pirates on the night was Quan Daniels with 17 points, followed by Jalen Johnson and Chase Harrel with 12 points each. Jay-Nathan Hayes added eight points.
