Alberta Jenkins Barksdale

Sis. Alberta Jenkins Barksdale age 98 of Marinna, Florida formerly of Jacksonville, FL

Passed away Friday December 21, 2018 at the Signature Healthcare at the Courtyard in Marianna, FL. Funeral services be held 11a.m. Saturday December 29th at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church located 6704 Reddoch Road Grand Ridge, FL with the Rev. Randy McMillan (Pastor), Rev. William Harvey Eulogist and Rev. David Cobb officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Mckinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton, FL directing. 

Sis. Barksdale will lie in state at the church one prior to the service on Saturday. 

Life began for Alberta Jenkins Barksdale on January 26, 1920 in Grand Ridge, Florida to the late Pledge and Rose Spencer Jenkins. She received Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at an early age. She began her Christian journey at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church but relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. She then became an active member of Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church where she served until having to return to Marianna, Florida due to illness.

At the age of 18, she was joined in holy matrimony to Charlie Foster. She remained his devoted wife until his death in 1966.

Love found her again when she met and married Bennie Milton Barksdale, Sr. after a long loving relationship; he also preceded her in death.

She spent her career working for the Duval County School Board in Jacksonville, Florida until her retirement many years ago.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Bertha and eleven siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memories eight nieces and four nephews: Lizzie Harvey, caretaker of Tallahassee, FL; Carrie Godwin of Marianna, FL; Clara Way of Opa Locka, FL; Sharon Jenkins of Sneads, FL; Karen Jenkins Howard (Eddie) and Tonya Jenkins of Bronx, NY; Clara Houston of Alachua, FL; Jeanette Muse of Panama City, FL; Reverend William Harvey, Deacon Thomas Harvey (Inez) and Lynwood Bruce Garrett all of Marianna, FL; Joe Lewis Jenkins of Alachua, FL. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and cousins spanning five generations.

Ida Mae Speights

Sis. Ida Mae Speights age 83 of Chattahoochee, Florida passed away Friday December 21, 2018 at the Signature Healthcare at the Courtyard in Marianna, FL. 

Funeral services will be held 11a.m. Friday December 28th at Holy Neck Missionary Baptist Church located 3395 cemetery lane Campbellton, FL with the Rev. Richard Peterson Sr. (Pastor), Rev. Simon Simmons, Elder Bernard White, Minister Wayne Gregory and Rev Carlton Cotton-Eulogist officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Mckinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton, FL directing. 

A public viewing will be held from 4 to 6p.m. Thursday December 27th at Mckinnie Funeral Home Chapel located 5304 Bowden Hill Road, Campbellton, FL. Sis. Speights will lie in state at the church one prior to the service on Friday. 

Sister Ida Mae Speights was born September 29, 1935 in Campbellton, Florida to the late Lonnie and Leila Allen. She accepted Christ as her personal savior early in life at Holy Neck Missionary Baptist Church in Campbellton, FL. She later moved and became a faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, FL. under the late Reverend O. W. Waddell. Currently Reverend Simon Simmons is the senior pastor. 

She retired from Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Florida with over 30 years of service as a Dietician. 

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, three brothers and four sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 35 years: Willie Lee Speights, Jr.; Four daughters: Ira Brown of Ozark, Alabama, Betty Johnson of Marianna, Florida, Angela (Bernard) Owens of Augusta, GA, and Ella Brown of Marianna, FL; Four sisters: Emma Tillman and Louvina (Edward) Cotton both of Marianna, FL, Louise (Joe) Pickett of Campbellton, FL, and Claddie (Edward) Gilbert of Malone, FL; One brother-in-law: Herman (Margianna) Speights; Sister-in-law: Louise Speights of St. Petersburg, FL; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.

Sylvia Lorraine Jackson

Ms. Sylvia Lorraine Jackson age 83 of Marianna, FL passed away Tuesday December 4th at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, Tallahassee, FL. Memorialization was by cremation with Mckinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton in charge of arrangements.

Sylvia was born on July 27, 1935 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to the late Audrey Montgomery. A Certified Nursing Assistant Nurse by profession, her hobbies includes; crossword puzzles, watching thrillers and horror movies on TV, feeding the birds outside, cooking, knitting, and taking care of her yorkie (named Spanky). She was a chocolate fanatic and loved her sweets. Often she would choose a chocolate cake for dinner over a real meal. She loved her catfish and could eat that every day as long as it had bones (no fillets). She loved grocery stores and described herself as (a kid being in a toy store).

She was survived by: 3 Grandchildren: Keith Harvey, Kevin Harvey and Diamond Harvey; 11 Great-Grandchildren: Ahmari James Harvey, Jessiah Elijah McGrew, Gloriana Goddess Gallon, Khalaya Harvey, Tre’Kevion Harvey, Treyson Harvey, Trelyn Harvey, Alexis Harvey, Alexia Harvey, Asiaana Harvey and Adrianna Harvey; 4 Cousins: Anita Jackson, Patricia Alston, Merel Dawson and Tracey Goodwin and a host of other relatives and friends.

Carrie Nell Russ

Mrs. Carrie Nell Russ age 55 of Lexington, Kentucky (formerly of Campbellton, FL) passed away Tuesday, November 13th at St. Joseph Main Hospital in Lexington. 

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday November 20th 2018 at the McKinnie Funeral Home Chapel located 5304 Bowden Hill Road Campbellton, FL. with Reverend Oscar Massey officiating McKinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton, FL. directing.

Sister Carrie Nell Sorey-Russ was born November 26th, 1962 to Mary and June Sorey. Spending her youth in the church, she accepted Christ into her heart at an early age. She would go on to marry Darrell Wayne Russ on December 12th, 1986 in Campbellton, Florida. 

She’d spend the rest of her life putting smiles on the faces of anyone she met and filling those that were blessed enough to build a close tight knit bond with her with a steady, ceaseless love that seems to grow with no end.

She was preceded in death by father June and sister Marcia Sorey.

She is survived by Her Husband: Darrell Russ of Columbus, GA; Her Son: Korraye Russ of  Columbus, GA; Her Mother: Mary Sorey of Campbellton, FL; Her Silblings: Bruce (Duane) Sorey, Jacob (Yvonne) Sorey, Mary (Kelly) Blue, and Jeanette (Grady) Stafford all of Campbellton, FL; Karen Ward of Lexington, Kentucky;  Her Brothers-in-law: Johnny Russ of Orlando, FL; James Russ of Tampa, FL; and Robert Russ of Campbellton, FL;  Her Sisters-in-law: Gloria Allen; and Joyce Russ of Queens, NY; Mary Nell Gary of Jacob City, FL; and Linda Pullin of Cottondale, FL. 

She was, and still is very much loved and will continue to fill our hearts with love.
