SSG Howard Roulhac Horne, Jr. age 83 of Chipley, Florida passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Noland Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.  The Funeral Service will be 2:30pm, Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Grant Tabernacle A. M. E. Church located at 419 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive Chipley, FL, with Reverend’s Sandra Jones, Tony Davis, Julius Tisdale and Elder Michael Killings officiating, He will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery located at 1401 Monroe Sheffield Road Chipley, Florida with Military honors and with McKinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton, Florida directing.

The body will (lie-in-state at the church) two hours prior to service.

Howard grew up in Washington County (Orange Hill Community).  He received his elementary and secondary education in the schools of Washington County.  Upon graduation, he matriculated to Florida A and M University.  Realizing there was a need for him by his country he enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He served for over 17 years with tours of duty in The Republic of South Korea and the Republic of Vietnam.  After, leaving the military he was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator and a Brick Layer until his health declined.

He, confessed God as his personal Lords and Savior at an early age by joining Saint Joseph A.M.E Church and later Grant Tabernacle A.M.E. Church, Chipley Florida.

He was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Maggie Rea Thomas, (who he affectionately called Mag) who departed this life April 1st, 2010.

He loved life and family.  There was nothing he would not do to assist any family member that called upon him. 

He was preceded in death by his Sister, Anne Kathryn Davis and Nephew Rory Howard Davis.

He leaves to cherish his memory one nephew: James Davis, Jr.; Special Great niece: Amanda Kathyrn Davis; Great nieces: Sabel Karoline Davis, Alisa Marie Davis; Great Nephews: Evan Ross Davis, Rory James Davis; Great-great niece: Atalaya Annalise Spencer; and Great-great nephew: Rory James Davis Jr.; First Cousins: Virena Brown, Vivian Koonce, Maudelyn Johnson, Althea O’Bryant,; Joyce Martin, Jacqueline Newkirk, William Rudolph Jackson, Virginia Long, Robert Dotson,  Alec Jackson, Dorothy Jackson and Grace Jackson: Brother in-laws:  Elder Michael Killings and Antonio Robinson.  First Cousin in-law: Ida Mae Cotton and many other relatives and friends.
