Mr. Herman Gene Green of Ocheesee, FL passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 after a brief illness, he had reached his 89th year. Herman was born on July 23, 1929 in Calhoun County to Council James and Beatrice (Scott) Green and had lived in Calhoun County for most of his life. Herman was a devoted husband of Donna for 59 years and together they raised 6 children. He was a Veteran, serving 8 years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict; a member of Red Level Masonic Lodge #134 in Marianna, FL where he served as Worshipful Master; he was also a member of the American Legion. Herman was a retired Project Engineer with the FDOT, with over 25 years of service. His passion was to serve others, emulating the attributes of his Savor Jesus Christ. Herman loved to grow things, planting and maintaining a large garden every year, sharing as much of his harvest as he could bless others with. He loved to fish and of course have fish fries, as well as cookouts of all types, inviting all to come to break bread and fellowship together. He was preceded in death by his parents: Council James and Beatrice (Scott) Green, four sisters: Edna McGowan, Murel Cissell, Betty Turcotte, and Dorothy Whitfield. He was a member of the Shady Grove Methodist Church where he served as Lay Leader and adult Sunday School teacher. Herman was also known as a prayer warrior, “if you need a prayer to reach heaven” then you asked Herman to pray for you, according to the testimony of his fellow members.
Survivors include: Wife: Donna Green of Grand Ridge, FL, Two Sons: Gary Green of Wewahitchka, FL, Jim Green of Ellijay, GA, Five Daughters: Gail Rosenberger and husband, John of Grand Ridge, FL., Sandra Davis of Grand Ridge, FL., Beverly Etheredge and husband, Tim of Mexico Beach, FL., Brenda Green of Grand Ridge, FL., Sylvia Green of Ball Ground, Ga., Two Brothers: James Kenneth Green of Ocala, FL., Glen Edward Green and wife, Linda of St. Augustine, FL., One Sister: Kathryn Barfield of Grand Ridge, FL., 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 am (CST) at Shady Grove Methodist Church with Reverend Chris Ackerman and Reverend Terry Tatum officiating. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, February 1, 2019 from 5:00 pm (CST) until 7:00 pm (CST) at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel. All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL.
