Terry Lee Powell, 61 of Sneads, Florida; took the hand of his Lord and passed peacefully to his Heavenly Home on December 31, 2017. Terry worked for Jackson County and Washington County Fire and Rescue before retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. During his years of service to Jackson County Fire and Rescue he was awarded the top honor of “Lifesaver” a bravery award for going above and beyond putting his own life at risk to save others as well as the Golden Hatchet Award. He enjoyed spending time with friends, fishing, hunting and Florida State Football; but most of all he loved worshiping his Lord and Savior at New Beginnings Worship Center with his family, keeping the family together as close as possible. Terry had and infectious smile and large sense of humor. Terry will be tremendously missed by all the lives he touched through the years.
Terry is survived by his loving mother, Bessie Strickland of Sneads, FL; two sons, Christopher Powell of Dallas, TX and Kevin Chumley and wife Rena of Marianna, FL; two sisters, Vanessa Powell and husband Ronald Neel of Bascom, FL and Vicki Baxter and husband Wayne of Sneads, FL; two brothers, Greg Strickland and wife Joy of Sneads, FL and Kenny Strickland and wife Dawn of Alton, IL; three grandchildren, Hunter Powell of Sneads, FL and Alyssa and Katelyn Chumley of Marianna, FL; one special brother in law, Doise Lipford of Marianna, FL; a very special cousin, like a sister, Rita Rolph and husband Murray of Ekalaka, Montana; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Terry is preceded in death by his father, Tom Strickland; maternal grandparents Alton and Emma Smith and paternal grandparents, George and Annie Mae Strickland.
A visitation with the family will take place Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM CST, January 02, 2018 at New Beginnings Worship Center in Grand Ridge, FL. Celebration of Life Services will take place at New Beginnings Worship Center with Pastor Mike Daniels and Pastor Eva Howell officiating on Wednesday, January 03, 2018 at 12:00 PM CST followed by interment in Emmanuel Holiness Church Cemetery in Sneads, FL.
