Earl Hobson Lewis Earl Hobson Lewis

Mr. Earl Hobson Lewis, age 99, a lifelong resident of Grand Ridge, Florida passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in Grand Ridge, Florida. After high school, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and joined the US Army in 1941, serving during World War II under General Patton.  Earl was injured in combat and was honorably discharged in 1946, receiving a Purple Heart.  Earl met Baya (deceased 2012) in Jacksonville, FL and they were married in 1946. They moved to Grand Ridge where he bought a farm and raised his family.  He was a professional barber at his own shop in Sneads, FL for over 40 years. He helped build Shady Grove United Methodist Church in the 1960s and was a lifelong member, serving as a chairman and trustee.  Earl was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Master Mason and member of the Red Level Lodge #134.  He loved the outdoors and loved helping his family and friends. Earl will be missed not only by his family but all the lives he touched throughout his life.

Earl is survived by three sons, Raymond Lewis of Lake City, Florida, Jerry Lewis and Elwin Lewis of Grand Ridge, Florida and their wives; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be held prior to Funeral Services from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM CST at Shady Grove United Methodist Church.  Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM CST at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Tatum officiating. Interment Service will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Grand Ridge, Florida.  Masonic Rites will be given in his honor by the Masonic Lodge and military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 241.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Shady Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund at 7305 Birchwood Road Grand Ridge, FL  32442.
