Steven Vassallo has been with the Marianna Police Department for five and a half years. He is presently a sergeant in the department.
Vassallo graduated from Altha High School and attended Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy in Tallahassee. He graduated in 2011 and was hired by Marianna Police Chief Hayes Baggett in 2012. Vassallo is very humble when asked about his role within the department, downplaying any heroics he may have encountered in his time with the department. He says, “I became a police officer to help people and keep the streets safe.”
About the rewarding part of his job, Vassallo says, “I would say knowing that when people lay down their heads at night, they are safe and they can sleep peaceful knowing that. As far as being sergeant, it gives me the opportunity to provide the right training to the officers that they need to do their job every day.”
Chief Hayes Baggett is very proud to have Vassallo on board, “He’s an asset to our department for sure. He is a great trainer to our younger guys and soaks up what our older ones have to offer him. He has a great rapport with the citizens and everyone receives him well.”
Vassallo is married to Sabre Vassallo and they have one daughter, Avery with a second child expected around Thanksgiving this year.
Thank you Sergeant Vassallo for serving and protecting the citizens of Marianna.
