With the election complete, the Jackson County Board of County Commissioners met in special section Tuesday with one key point of the meeting to elect a new chair and vice chair of the commission. Outgoing chairman Eric Hill said, “It’s been an honor and a pleasure to represent the county as a commissioner but I have to say it was a little more special to be nominated and voted on to chair the commission this past year. I know it wasn’t a smooth ride through the 12 months but I am very proud of the direction the commission is headed and appreciate all the support I was given from not only my fellow commissioners, but the county staff and most especially the voters and constituents of Jackson County.”
With Hill leaving as chairman, nominations were opened for Chairman of the Board by Clerk of the Court Clay Rooks. Commissioner Jim Peacock nominated Clint Pate. Eric Hill seconded the nomination and Rooks called for any additional nominations. None were made and the vote was unanimous (4-0) with Dr. Willie Spires absent and not voting. Commissioner Pate then called for nominations for vice-chairman with Hill nominating Jim Peacock. Pate relinquished the gavel to Rooks and then seconded the nomination for Peacock. No further nominations were made and Peacock was elected as vice-chairman on a 4-0 vote with Spires not present to vote.
Both Pate and Peacock were sworn in by Jackson County Clerk of Court Clay Rooks.
