Blue Springs Park Opening Draws Big Crowd

Chuck Hatcher takes great pride and satisfaction for what he and the Jackson County Commission have accomplished since Hatcher took over the position of Director of Parks and Recreation, some eight years ago. He has significantly improved several preexisting parks and his planning and supervision has created several new parks since he began his work.

In the process he has been instrumental in creating several new parks and trails that are today being enjoyed by local families as well as many visitors to our area. One of the most popular parks our county now operates is the Blue Springs Recreation Area, which has become a very well-known family oriented North Florida playground.

The Blue Springs Recreation Area was open over the three day Memorial Day weekend. As usual, a huge crowd enjoyed the beach during the hot weather, the cool waters of Meritt’s Mill Pond, and the picnic areas.

On Saturday a crowd of over 500 came through the park gate, armed with sunscreen, sun glasses, picnic baskets, beach balls, goggles, snorkels, and other supplies, ready for a day of lounging and fun. On Sunday 808 attended the facility, and on Memorial Day the crowd was 1,817. The total citizens and families which enjoyed Hatcher’s pride and joy over the holiday were 3,100.
