The University of Florida Extension Service and the Florida Department of Health in Jackson County are collaborating to provide a Center for Disease Control (CDC) diabetes education program, Prevent T2: A Proven Program to Prevent or Delay Type 2 Diabetes. The Chipola Civic Club and the Pilot Club of Marianna are hosting their annual BarBQ Pork Dinner benefitting the Backpack for Kids Program of Jackson County.  The dinner will be held on Thursday, August 23, from 4:30 - 7:00pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall.  Tickets are still the best bargain in town at $6.00 each.  Plates include Pulled Pork, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Roll and Dessert. You may dine in or use the drive-thru window accessible by using the Wynn St. entrance.  This is an annual fund raiser for these two Civic organizations and all proceeds go to the Backpack for Kids program of Jackson County which makes sure children who may be at risk of not having sufficient food on weekends or holidays get a backpack or parcel of food to take home from school on Fridays.  Tickets are available from any Chipola Civic Club or Pilot Club member, or by calling Gail Hill at 557-0501, Judy Lanier at 718-7116, or Denise Raits at 482-6722.  Please help us support this worthwhile project.
